MSC Takes Delivery of 11th 16,000 TEU LNG Dual-Fuel Boxship from Yangzijiang Shipbuilding

On November 22, Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, successfully delivered the MSC IRIS — the eleventh 16,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship constructed for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) — for operational deployment.

MSC IRIS has an overall length of approximately 366 meters, a beam of 51 meters, a depth of 30.2 meters, and a structural draft of 17 meters. The vessel is equipped with energy-saving devices including shaft generators, air lubrication, rudder balls, and twisted blades. Its dual-fuel main engines utilize ECOEGR optimization technology, enabling compliance with Tier III emission standards while further reducing fuel consumption.

Additionally, the vessel is equipped with a wind deflector shield, which effectively reduces wind resistance during navigation. By decreasing fuel consumption, this measure helps lower carbon emissions and contributes to achieving greener, more efficient ship operations.

The vessel commenced construction in early October 2024, was laid keel in early April 2025, and was launched by the end of July. It successfully completed sea trials in early November, with all test results meeting design specifications.

On November 18, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding and MSC jointly held a naming ceremony for the new vessel. On November 20, Mr. CH Giuseppe Gargiulo, MSC’s China Manager for Newbuildings, and Mr. Yang Xueyan, Deputy General Manager of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding and General Manager of Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, signed the delivery documents on behalf of their respective parties.
