Recently, the “Baochang” vessel, a leading energy-saving and environmentally friendly ocean-going refrigerated vessel in China, completed its ship registration and international ocean shipping filing in the Dongjiang Comprehensive Bonded Zone of Tianjin Binhai New Area and was officially delivered to Tianjin Shengrun Shipping for operation.

With a deadweight tonnage of 6,400 tons, this vessel is known as a “mobile refrigerator at sea” and is currently the most technologically advanced ocean-going refrigerated transport vessel in China. The vessel is 114.95 meters long, 17 meters wide, and 10.5 meters deep, with a cargo hold volume of 7,100 cubic meters, equivalent to a giant cold storage facility capable of sailing on the ocean.
Its core refrigeration system delivers robust performance, achieving a minimum storage temperature of -35°C. This enables precise preservation of premium and commercial fish cargo, locking in ingredient quality throughout transit. Additionally, the vessel features advanced navigation equipment, strong wind resistance, and energy-efficient, eco-friendly design, fully meeting the demands of long-distance deep-sea cold chain transportation.
It is understood that as a scarce shipping resource, the global fleet of ocean-going refrigerated vessels numbers fewer than 200 units, with many facing aging fleet issues. The arrival of the Baochang vessel in Tianjin not only fills a gap in the city’s capabilities in this sector but also marks a milestone in the region’s efforts to build an ocean-going refrigerated vessel fleet and enhance its modern shipping industry system.
In the future, the vessel will operate between internationally renowned fishing grounds and domestic ports. On one hand, it will deliver premium deep-sea seafood directly to the domestic market; on the other, it will establish an efficient cold chain corridor for exporting domestically processed seafood products to European and American markets, thereby supporting the upgrading of the foreign trade industry.
