Jiangnan Shipyard Signs VLEC Cooperation Memorandum with Seaspan and COSCO Shipping LNG Investment (Shanghai)

From November 16 to 18, Wang Guoqiang, Deputy Party Secretary, Director, and General Manager of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC), led a delegation to Hong Kong to attend the 2025 World Maritime Merchants Forum and conduct a series of meetings and research activities.

Wang Guoqiang delivered a keynote speech titled “Focusing on New Directions for Green and Intelligent Development, Jointly Forging a New Collaborative Ecosystem for the Shipping and Shipbuilding Industry Chain.” He emphasized that in today’s world, green and intelligent development has become the prevailing trend in the global shipping industry. CSSC will focus on emerging demands for green and intelligent solutions, actively driving innovation, integration, and advancement within the sector. Looking ahead, the global maritime industry is accelerating its transformation and upgrading amid a century-defining shift. CSSC stands ready to collaborate with global partners to “break down barriers and embrace change,” jointly creating and building a new ecosystem for maritime industry development.

During the visit, Wang Guoqiang held talks with Wang Haimin, Chairman of China Tourism Group Co., Ltd.; Chen Bing, Chairman, President, and CEO of Seaspan Corporation; and Armin E. Eickhoff, President and CEO of DNV.

Wang Guoqiang stated that CSSC is currently striving to build a world-class shipbuilding group, vigorously enhancing its comprehensive competitiveness in shipbuilding and offshore engineering, and accelerating its digital transformation. Looking ahead, CSSC is willing to further strengthen cooperation with its partners in areas such as green shipbuilding, high-end ship design, cruise ship operation, smart shipping, and digital management, actively carrying out comprehensive and in-depth business synergy to achieve complementary advantages, form synergy, and usher in a new era of win-win development.

It is worth mentioning that Wang Guoqiang also witnessed the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement between CSSC and China Tourism Group, and the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLECs) by CSSC’s subsidiary Jiangnan Shipyard, together with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), Seaspan, and Shanghai COSCO Shipping LNG. He also held talks with relevant central enterprises and signed strategic cooperation agreements.

Wang Guoqiang also visited several CSSC subsidiaries in Hong Kong, including CSSC (Hong Kong) Shipping, China United Shipbuilding, China Shipbuilding Consulting, and CSSC Capital. He emphasized that CSSC’s Hong Kong-based companies should focus on enhancing their ability and level of promoting high-quality development; concentrate on their core businesses, strengthen core functions and enhance core competitiveness; strengthen their international operation capabilities and effectively improve management efficiency and earnestly ensure safety and security.
