On September 26, CNOOC named two 174,000 cbm large-scale LNG carriers for its medium- and long-term FOB resource-matched transportation project at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding. The two vessels were christened “GreenEnergy Star” and “GreenEnergy Moon” respectively. Scheduled for delivery in mid-to-late October, both vessels are expected to be put into operation ahead of schedule.
Both vessels are fifth-generation 174,000 cbm LNG carriers from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding’s self-developed Changheng series. They integrate the latest design concepts, the best technical equipment, the strongest environmental performance, the most forward-looking, and the essence of the company’s previous LNG carrier designs.
With an overall length of 299 meters, a beam of 46.4 meters, and a depth of 26.25 meters, the vessels feature the latest generation twin-skeg hull design and incorporate multiple low-carbon and digital technologies and equipment. They are classified by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and China Classification Society (CCS).
The Changheng series of LNG carriers has secured orders for 34 vessels while garnering numerous awards and widespread acclaim. Notably, on September 23, this LNG carrier debuted at the 25th China International Industry Fair (CIIF) and was honored with the event’s sole CIIF Special Award.
The first vessel of the Changheng series, the Green Energy Ocean, was honored with the SRS Green Ship Award by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) for its outstanding green and eco-friendly performance.
To date, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding has completed and delivered 52 LNG storage and transportation vessels. The company continues to cultivate the fertile ground of lean management, applying smart manufacturing technologies to continuously enhance construction efficiency and shorten delivery cycles. This year, it is poised to once again break its own record for large LNG carrier deliveries set in 2024.
