CSSC’s WMMP Delivers Two Next-Gen Jack-Up Platforms to Saudi Arabia

On August 3rd, two new-generation shallow-draft jack-up offshore operation support platforms, JANA506 and JANA507, constructed by Wuhan Marine Machinery Plant (WMMP, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation) under an EPC contract, set sail from Qingdao Haixi Heavy-Duty Machinery Co., Ltd’s (HHMC) Wharf and headed for Saudi Arabia.

With a draft of 2 meters at full load, these offshore platforms can meet the service needs of oil fields in the special shallow waters of the Persian Gulf. The delivery of this batch of equipment adds another new achievement to the advancement of the “Belt and Road” Initiative.

As representative products in the field of offshore jack-up support platform equipment manufacturing, the JANA506 and JANA507 platforms are next-generation, shallow-draft, self-propelled, jack-up offshore platforms designed and built specifically for offshore oilfield services. Both platforms hold the “SMART” class notation certified by ABS and integrate a number of core technologies with independent intellectual property rights, representing that the design of this type of platform has reached the international advanced level.

Designed with environmentally friendly principles, the platform boasts efficient operations and is equipped with advanced intelligent systems. Its shallow draft allows it to handle diverse operations in complex marine environments, including platform hoisting, cargo lifting, and self-propelled propulsion. Furthermore, a single platform can accommodate up to 120 crew members.

As a leading domestic shipbuilding and offshore engineering equipment manufacturer and a pioneer in system integration, WMMP’s offshore platform business has experienced more than a decade of rapid development. Through independent research and development and technological innovation, the data link acquisition and overall commissioning cycle of key components such as jacking systems and lifting equipment have been effectively guaranteed, achieving a leading position in the self-elevating offshore support platform segment.

To date, WMMP has constructed more than 40 jack-up offshore platforms. Among these, the jack-up offshore support platforms exported for international trade primarily operate in the Middle East region, providing services to internationally renowned oil companies. WMMP is the world’s leading manufacturer in terms of the number of such platforms delivered.

Focusing on the jack-up offshore platform industry, WMMP is actively cultivating new high-quality productivity, creating differentiated products, and continuously improving product quality and efficiency. Two intelligent jack-up offshore support platforms have incorporated lean management thinking throughout their product development, design, and technical management processes. By standardizing processes, optimizing work methods, and introducing lean tools, they are promoting the synergy between lean design and process engineering to achieve quality improvement. Focusing on design optimization, WMMP has enhanced its integrated R&D capabilities, shortening the platform’s technical preparation period to 45 days, laying the foundation for efficient offshore platform construction.
