CSSC’s GUMECO Wins Bid for China’s First Deep-Sea Unmanned Feeding Vessel

On July 4, Guangdong Government Procurement Center officially released the winning bid announcement. The Guangzhou Marine Engineering Corporation (GUMECO) of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), taking the lead, won the bid for the “Deep Sea Unmanned Transport Feeding Vessel Development and Engineering Demonstration Project” of Guangdong Institute of Modern Agricultural Equipment. The bid was successfully secured by a consortium led by the GUMECO, together with such entities as CSSC GuiJiang ShipBuilding, Sun Yat-sen University, Jimei University, which marks another major breakthrough of the GUMECO in the field of intelligent unmanned marine equipment.

This project is an unmanned transport vessel specially developed by GUMECO based on its R&D achievements in the full spectrum of unmanned vessels, aiming at the complex sea conditions in the South China Sea such as frequent typhoons, high waves and strong currents. The vessel has a loading capacity of 20 tons, a wind resistance capacity of Grade 9, and is capable of all-weather autonomous navigation and feeding. The project team will conduct full-chain technical research through the process of “R&D – design – testing – construction – sea trials”, break through key technologies such as autonomous obstacle avoidance, convenient berthing, precise feeding, and shore-sea collaboration, realize intelligent and unmanned feed transportation, feeding and management, and carry out technical verification in the demonstration sea area.

Upon completion, the project will form a system of deep sea marine aquaculture equipment with independent intellectual property rights, providing standardized and intelligent solutions for the construction of modern marine ranching across the province. Taking this as an opportunity, the GUMECO will give full play to its leading role in marine equipment R&D in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and make new contributions to the high-quality development of the blue marine economy.
