On July 4th, Dalian Marine Diesel Co., Ltd. (DMD) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) successfully held the delivery ceremony for China’s first 7G80MEC-LGIM-EGRTC methanol dual-fuel marine low-speed engine. The main engine will be installed on the world’s first methanol dual-fuel powered intelligent VLCC (306,000 DWT very large crude carrier) built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC) for China Merchants Energy Shipping’s Associated Maritime Company (Hong Kong) Limited (AMCL).
The 7G80MEC-LGIM-EGRTC main engine has a rated power of 32,970 kilowatts and a maximum speed of 72 revolutions per minute, meeting the highest emission standards of the International Maritime Organization. The main engine adopts the most advanced fuel injection and combustion control technology in the world, so that both methanol and traditional fuel can maintain efficient combustion, improve thermal efficiency, effectively save energy consumption, and reduce ship operating costs. When switching to methanol fuel mode, it can reduce nitrogen oxides by 50%, sulfur oxides by 97%, particulate matter by 90%, and greenhouse gas emissions by 5%, meeting the stringent emission requirements of any port in the world.
It is understood that since 2022, DMD has gone through technical research and capacity building to establish a reliable, stable, and safe methanol dual-fuel supply system, featuring eight methanol dual-fuel test benches capable of simultaneously operating two methanol dual-fuel main engines. At the same time, DMD closely follows the progress of the patent company’s drawings and component approval progress, and has built a stable and complete methanol main engine supply chain.
Since 2024, DMD has successively delivered a total of 14 methanol dual-fuel main engines of different types to customers such as Guangzhou Shipyard International and China Merchants Energy Shipping. The efficient development level and delivery capabilities have won high recognition from customers.
