Japan’s Imabari Shipbuilding Delivers Cutting-Edge LNG Dual-Fuel PCTC “ANGELITE ACE” to MOL

On July 1, Tadotsu Shipyard, a subsidiary of Imabari Shipbuilding, Japan’s largest shipbuilding group, delivered the 7,000 CEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel PCTC (pure car and track carrier) “ANGELITE ACE” to fellow shipowner Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL).

The “ANGELITE ACE” measures 199.93 meters in length, 38.0 meters in width and 38.76 meters in depth, with a deadweight tonnage of 18,473 tons and a gross tonnage of 77,695. Fitted with a 6S60ME-C10.5-GI main engine, it has a speed of approximately 18.0 knots, is classified by the Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (NK) and flies the flag of Liberia.

Imabari Shipbuilding stated that compared to PCTCs that use traditional marine fuel, the ANGELITE ACE is equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system that reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 25-30%, nitrogen oxide emissions by 80-90% and produces almost no sulfur oxide emissions.

Since the PCTC is equipped with LNG fuel tanks that continuously boil-off gas (BOG), the BOG can be used to power generators and boilers, making it more environmentally friendly.

In addition, the PCTC adopts a partition-free structure, with widened ramps arranged in a straight line, which can simplify the vehicle driving route and improve safety and loading/unloading efficiency. The height of the liftable deck can be adjusted vertically, enabling it to carry not only passenger cars but also trucks, trailers and other large freight vehicles.
