CIMC Raffles Cuts Steel for 3,300 Lane Metre Ro-Ro Vessel for SMYRIL LINE

On May 21st, CIMC Raffles, a subsidiary of CIMC Group, held a steel cutting ceremony at Longkou Base for the 3300 lane metre ro-ro vessel, which is building for the Faroe Islands shipping company SMYRIL LINE.

With a length of 189.5 meters, a beam of 27.2 meters, a design draft of 6 meters and a design speed of 18 knots, the ro-ro vessel is expected to be delivered in 2026. The vessel is flagged to Faroe Islands and classed by DNV.

It is worth mentioning that this RoRo vessel project combines intelligent engineering and environmental protection technology. It is designed to challenge the harsh North Atlantic routes and can carry cargo in a 3,300 lane metres.

The vessel is also equipped with a battery system, shore power connection and green methanol fuel adaptation. Compared with SMYRIL LINE’s existing fleet, this ro-ro vessel project reduces carbon dioxide emissions per ton of cargo by more than 60%, which will lead the industry’s continuous transformation towards sustainable development.

Earlier news said that Smyril Line and CIMC Raffles signed a contract to build two methanol-reserved RoRo vessels in early 2024, which are expected to be delivered starting in 2026.
