Norwegian Owner KNOT Exercises Option for 154,000 DWT Shuttle Tanker

COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Zhoushan), a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry, announced that the construction contract for a 154,000 DWT shuttle tanker signed with KNOT, a leading Norwegian shipping company, has officially come into effect.

As previously reported, in February 2024, COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) signed a contract with Norway’s KNOT for the construction of 3 154,000 dwt shuttle tankers with an option for another vessel of the same type. With the latest option vessel coming into effect, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan)’s shuttle tanker orders from KNOT have reached 12 vessels.

The vessel is innovatively developed by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Design & Research Institute with completely independent intellectual property rights. Classed by DNV, the vessel measures 279 meters in overall length, 48 meters in beam, 23.8 meters in depth and 16 meters in design draft.

Meanwhile, the vessel meets the requirements of Classification Society notations such as Methanol Ready, Cyber Security, COMF(C-3,V-3) and EEDI 3 energy efficiency index. In addition, the vessel is equipped with DP2 power positioning system and fifth generation bow loading system, which can operate stably even under adverse sea conditions.

COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) said that since cooperating with KNOT in 2012, it has delivered 6 shuttle tankers to the owner. The vessels’ operation performance is excellent, and all core indicators have reached the industry’s leading standards.
