Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Launches 25,900DWT Stainless Steel Chemical Tanker “XT Sea Lion”

On May 16, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC), successfully launched the 25,900DWT stainless steel chemical tanker “XT Sea Lion” for Xingtong Shipping. This is the first unit of 25,900DWT stainless steel chemical tankers batch-built by Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry.

The 25900DWT series stainless steel chemical tanker is another type of stainless steel chemical tanker built by Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry after the batch construction of 7200DWT, 14620DWT and 9200DWT stainless steel chemical tankers. The construction of this vessel broke the company’s previous record of building 24000DWT crude oil tankers, becoming the largest deadweight tonnage vessel built by Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry in the Yangtze River Basin so far.

On August 8, 2023, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry, together with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), successfully signed two 25900DWT stainless steel chemical tankers with Xingtong Shipping for the first time. On this basis, the two sides further deepened mutual trust and expanded cooperation, and once again reached a cooperation agreement for four 25,900 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers. Up to now, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry holds order book for more than ten 25900DWT stainless steel chemical tankers.

“XT Sea Lion” is 158.98 meters long, 27 meters wide, 14.20 meters deep with a tank capacity of 29,500 cubic meters. It can flexibly load rich cargo list, achieve diversified and efficient cargo loading, and meet complex transportation needs. The vessel is classified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), and its overall performance parameters have lower fuel consumption, higher loading capacity and larger tank capacity compared to similar vessels.

In terms of environmental performance, “XT Sea Lion” is equipped with a MAN 5S50ME-C9.7-EcoEGR main engine, with a design speed of 14 knots and EEDI that meets the requirements of Phase 3. The generator sets are all equipped with an SCR system, and the emissions meet the requirements of IMO Tier III. The vessel has also been awarded environmental protection notations such as ENVIRO, Methanol Fuel Ready Level 1C, and EEDI-PH3 by ABS, which can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The vessel is also equipped with a methanol dual-fuel READY main engine, which reserves technical space for future fuel upgrades.

Upon completion, the vessel will be put into the water transportation business of global chemicals, which will further enhance China’s transportation capacity in the international chemical market.
