Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Pioneers LNG Carrier Lifecycle Service with Landmark ‘Wudang’ Maintenance

Recently, the 174,000 m³ LNG carrier “Wudang” built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. returned to Hudong-Zhonghua for maintenance. This move set a precedent for the company’s LNG carriers to return to the yard for routine maintenance, and marked the beginning of Hudong-Zhonghua’s new service mode of expanding the whole life cycle protection system for LNG carriers.

Since its delivery on December 15, 2022, “Wudang” has set a new benchmark for Hudong-Zhonghua’s LNG carrier quality with its outstanding performance of having the least number of insurance policies and the best warranty costs.

Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding and the shipowner cooperated deeply, and after a comprehensive assessment of several shipyards in Europe and Asia, the two parties finally reached a groundbreaking agreement – to arrange the “Wudang” LNG carrier back to Hudong-Zhonghua to start maintenance work.

Taking advantage of the opportunity that the shipowner arranged for the “Wudang” LNG carrier to return to the factory for maintenance, with the efforts of all departments, Hudong-Zhonghua completed more than 80 maintenance items of the “Wudang” LNG carrier in just 8 days, saving more than 30% of the maintenance costs.

“Wudang” is the second 174,000 m³ LNG carrier built by Hudong-Zhonghua for COSCO SHIPPING PetroChina State LNG Project. The vessel is independently developed and designed by Hudong-Zhonghua, with an overall length of 295 meters, a beam of 45 meters, a depth of 26.25 meters, a speed of 19.5 knots, and is classified by Lloyd’s Register (LR) and China Classification Society (CCS).
