Vard Delivers Hybrid CSOV to Purus

Recently, the commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) “Purus Chinook” built by Norway’s Vard for Purus was successfully delivered. This is Purus’s first new vessel for the offshore wind power market.

Purus Chinook is of Vard 4 19 design, it is 88 metres long and can accommodate 120 people. It is equipped with an electronically controlled motion-compensated crane and a stepless walk-to-work system capable of operating seamlessly between 15 and 30 metres above sea level. It is also equipped with an 18-metre helicopter deck and a new 12-passenger daughter craft designed by Chartwell.

The new vessel features a modern hull and optimized propulsion system for excellent seakeeping performance and fuel efficiency, as well as a battery-hybrid propulsion system for long-duration zero-emission operation. In addition, the vessel will be able to run on methanol fuel in the future.

Notably, the vessel utilizes the strictest comfort class notations, namely C2 (climate) and V1 (noise and vibration). This notation ensures optimal onboard temperature regulation and reduces noise and vibration throughout the vessel.
