On October 16, the second vessel in a series of 93,000 m³ very large ammonia carriers (VLACs) built by Jiangnan Shipyard for AW Shipping—named “NURAI” (hull number H2750)—was officially christened. The vessel was recently successfully delivered.

The 93,000 m³ VLAC is a derivative (Panda 93A) of the fourth-generation VLGC premium vessel type independently developed and designed by Jiangnan Shipyard. This vessel is currently the world’s largest liquid ammonia carrier, with a total length of 230 meters, a depth of 22.5 meters, and a structural draft of 13 meters. It is classed by Lloyd’s Register.
During the design of this vessel type, the cargo tanks were specially reinforced to account for the fact that anhydrous liquid ammonia has a higher density than conventional liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Furthermore, the vessel incorporates a new generation of low-resistance hull line—developed entirely in-house—which ensures excellent and consistent performance across various operating conditions, including full-load, ballast, and the transport of liquid cargoes with differing specific gravities.
In recent years, Jiangnan Shipyard has strengthened its capabilities in the integrated supply of liquid cargo and gas fuel systems, securing numerous proprietary core patents. Its product portfolio now encompasses mainstream liquid cargo carriers and dual-fuel vessels; backed by reliable products and comprehensive services, the shipyard has earned an excellent reputation in the market.
