Recently, Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), successfully signed a contract with HAI AN TRANSPORT & STEVEDORING JSC (HAIAN) for the construction of two “Honghu” 1,900-TEU container ships.

The vessel type covered by this contract is the “Honghu” series—a flagship model independently developed by Huangpu Wenchong. With a total length of 172 meters, a beam of 27.5 meters, and a deadweight of approximately 24,000 tons, the vessel offers advantages such as high loading capacity, low energy consumption, strong adaptability, and flexible routing capabilities.
This vessel type meets the Phase III energy efficiency requirements of the International Maritime EEDI and is equipped with environmental protection systems such as shore power and desulfurization systems. It is low-carbon, energy-efficient, and compliant with global emissions regulations, making it a high-quality, workhorse feeder vessel that combines economic efficiency with environmental performance.

Since its market launch in 2020, the “Honghu” 1900 TEU vessel design has earned widespread recognition in major global shipping markets for its exceptional overall performance. It has been adopted by over 20 prominent international and domestic liner companies and specialized vessel operators. Deployed across numerous core global shipping routes—spanning six continents and traversing the world’s three major oceans—the “Honghu” has established itself as a highly influential benchmark in the global feeder container ship sector, consistently winning the trust of shipowners worldwide.
HAIAN is Vietnam’s largest container shipping line and an integrated logistics enterprise listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange, with core business operations spanning port management, container shipping, and logistics services.
This agreement marks the first collaboration between Huangpu Wenchong and HAIAN, serving as a significant milestone in deepening ties with Vietnamese shipping enterprises. It further expands Huangpu Wenchong’s client base within the Southeast Asian market, while underscoring the company’s leading position and comprehensive capabilities in the feeder container ship sector.
