On September 25, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) held a naming ceremony for the 10th 154,000 DWT shuttle tanker built for the Norwegian company KNOT. The vessel was officially named “KRISTIN KNUTSEN,” marking a new milestone for the shipbuilder in the production of high-end shuttle tankers.
The “KRISTIN KNUTSEN” is a new-generation 154,000-metric-ton shuttle tanker independently developed and designed by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan). The vessel has an overall length of 279 meters and a beam of 48 meters, and is classified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV).DWT
The vessel is equipped with a DP2 dynamic positioning system and a bow loading system. Its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) meets Phase III standards and complies with design requirements such as provisions for alternative fuels. By adopting technical solutions such as a medium-voltage closed-loop busbar and variable-frequency drive propulsion systems, the vessel can reduce the number of operating units under partial-load conditions and improve system efficiency, thereby helping to lower energy consumption and emissions and meeting the requirements for green, low-carbon development.
The “KRISTIN KNUTSEN” is the 10th shuttle tanker built by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) in collaboration with KNOT. The previously delivered sister ships in this series are currently operating smoothly.
The partnership between COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Zhoushan) and Norway’s KNOT began in 2012. From jointly developing the first vessel to the successful naming of the 10th vessel, the two parties have continuously deepened their cooperation. Currently, their combined order backlog has reached 15 vessels, and the remaining five are progressing smoothly within schedule.
