On September 24, Jiangnan Shipyard, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), held a naming and delivery ceremony for the “CMA CGM ALCESTE,” the final vessel in the “Kun” series of 15,000 TEU methanol-dual-fuel large container ships built for CMA CGM. The vessel was delivered 155 days ahead of the contractual schedule.
This series of 15,000-TEU methanol-powered dual-fuel container ships is part of the “KUN” series of large container ships (“KUN-15M”) independently developed and designed by Jiangnan Shipyard. With a total length of 366 meters, this vessel represents yet another new type of highly efficient, green, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly ultra-large container ship independently developed by Jiangnan Shipyard. The design was based on the shipyard’s core vessel types, with research and development driven by market demand and design tailored to production needs, actively promoting close integration between R&D and production while closely aligning with shipowners’ requirements.
This series of vessels, powered by methanol dual-fuel propulsion, not only serves as a practical demonstration of China’s shipbuilding industry’s enhanced global competitiveness but also aligns comprehensively with multiple national top-level development strategies. Furthermore, it enables significant, phased reductions in all categories of pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions across the shipping sector, making it another large-scale, core vehicle for the shipping industry’s steady progress toward the goal of achieving zero-carbon emissions across the entire sector.
The series consists of a total of six vessels, and Jiangnan Shipyard successfully completed all deliveries over a period of two years and three months. The “CMA CGM ALCESTE,” delivered on this occasion, is the final vessel in the series of 15,000-TEU methanol dual-fuel container ships built by Jiangnan Shipyard for CMA CGM.
