According to official announcements from Hantong Group, the “Hantong Changyang” project—a green new-energy vessel and high-end offshore engineering equipment manufacturing and repair base operated by Jiangsu Hantong Changyang Intelligent Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd.—officially commenced production on August 18. The facility focuses on the R&D, design, and construction of high-value-added vessels, with a product portfolio that includes mainstream high-end ship types such as 22,000 TEU dual-fuel container ships and Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs).
The project to establish this green new-energy vessel and high-end offshore equipment base in Qidong was signed on February 20, 2025. One day later, on February 21, 2025, Jiangsu Hantong Changyang Intelligent Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was incorporated with a registered capital of RMB 1 billion. A wholly-owned subsidiary of Jiangsu Hantong Group, the company engages in licensed operations such as shipbuilding, port operations, and ship repair, alongside technical service businesses including offshore engineering equipment manufacturing, vessel sales, and metal structure sales.
With a total investment of RMB 3.5 billion, the project occupies a planned area of 747 mu (approximately 50 hectares) and features a building area of around 155,000 square meters. Supporting facilities include an 80,000-ton class offshore engineering dry dock and an 80,000-ton class outfitting wharf. Upon full completion, the project will specialize in the R&D, design, and construction of high-value-added vessels—such as ultra-large container ships and VLCCs—as well as the manufacturing of various types of large-scale, high-end new-energy offshore engineering equipment.
Notably, as a key new project supporting the green transformation of Jiangsu Province’s shipbuilding and offshore engineering sectors, Hantong Changyang secured additional shipbuilding capacity quotas through capacity replacement, thereby avoiding the creation of excess capacity.
In July 2025, the Nantong Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology released the capacity replacement plan for Jiangsu Hantong Changyang Intelligent Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Under this plan, the original 400,000-deadweight-ton (DWT) shipbuilding capacity of Nantong Dongxin Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. underwent a capacity reduction and replacement at a ratio of 1.25:1, resulting in a net capacity of 320,000 DWT; of this, 210,000 DWT was allocated to the Hantong Green New Energy Vessel and High-End Offshore Equipment Manufacturing and Repair Base project.
The commissioning of this new shipbuilding and repair base marks a further expansion of Hantong Group’s high-end shipbuilding capacity. It provides robust support for the group’s deep engagement in the high-end shipbuilding sector and its ability to secure orders for clean-energy vessels, thereby helping to enhance its overall competitiveness in the global shipbuilding market.
Jiangsu Hantong Group’s core business spans offshore engineering, shipbuilding, and new energy offshore wind power. The group operates three major shipbuilding bases—Xin Hantong, Hantong WING, and Hantong Changyang—along with the Jingtong Port delivery base. It possesses a shipbuilding and design capacity of 5 million deadweight tons (DWT) and an annual steel processing capacity of 900,000 tons, supported by facilities such as a 300,000-ton class shipbuilding dock and a 22,000-ton semi-submersible floating dock.
