CHIC Achieves New Breakthrough with Completion & Shipment of Large Marine LNG Fuel Tanks

On May 28, COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry Equipment (Nantong) Co., Ltd. (CHIC) completed the construction of its first set of 1,305 m³ LNG fuel tanks and successfully loaded them onto a vessel for shipment, marking a new breakthrough for the company in the field of green energy marine equipment.

CHIC noted that the delivery of this 1,305 m³ LNG fuel tank represents another milestone project in the field of green and clean energy marine equipment for the company, following the successful delivery of its first ammonia fuel tank in 2024.

The fuel tank’s core material is high-performance 9Ni steel, which offers excellent cryogenic toughness and structural stability. It can operate reliably in complex and harsh marine environments, providing a safe, efficient, and reliable energy supply for ship propulsion systems.

During the project, CHIC successfully executed several critical processes, including the fabrication of the tank structure, the construction and commissioning of the TCS room system, the integrated commissioning of the TCS installation, liquid nitrogen filling, and the installation of the tank insulation layer, ensuring the successful completion of equipment construction and testing.

It is reported that this equipment will be installed on large LNG-powered dual-fuel (RO-RO) ships, providing critical core equipment to support the development of green, low-carbon shipping and helping the global shipping industry accelerate its transition toward energy conservation, emissions reduction, and green transformation.
