Fatal Accident Occurs at BAE Systems Jacksonville Ship Repair Facility

BAE Systems has confirmed that on May 9, a fatal accident occurred at its Jacksonville Ship Repair facility when a shipyard worker was performing maintenance on heavy machinery.

A spokesperson for BAE Systems stated that at the time of the incident, the workers who lost their lives were performing maintenance work on a Self-Propelled Modular Transporter (SPMT) when the fatal accident occurred.

An SPMT is a type of heavy-duty engineering equipment primarily used to transport ships from coastal areas to inland shipyard facilities.

Currently, BAE Systems is investigating the cause of the accident.
