HD KSOE Secures $506M Order for Two LPG Carriers and Two PCTCs

On April 16, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai Group’s shipbuilding business, announced that it had secured an order for four new vessels of two different types from an overseas shipowner, with a total contract value of 745.1 billion won (approximately $506 million).

The order, which includes two liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers and two pure car and track carriers (PCTCs), will be built at two shipyards operated by HD KSOE.

Specifically, HD Hyundai Samho is responsible for building two LPG carriers. The order is valued at 346.6 billion won (approximately $235 million), with each vessel costing about $117.5 million, and delivery is expected by April 2029; HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is responsible for building two PCTCs, with an order value of 398.5 billion won (approximately $270 million). The cost per vessel is approximately $135 million, and delivery is expected in the first half of 2029.

Including the latest orders, HD KSOE has secured orders for 72 new vessels worth $7.75 billion so far this year, achieving 33.3% of its annual order target of $23.31 billion.

By vessel type, the fleet includes 12 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, 20 container ships, 11 LPG/ammonia carriers, 7 crude oil tankers, 20 product tankers, and 2 PCTCs.
