Ningbo Ocean Shipping to Invest in Six New Container Vessels

On March 31, Ningbo Ocean Shipping (NBOSCO) issued an “Announcement Regarding the Investment in the Construction of Container Ships and Containers,” stating that it will invest up to RMB 1.7 billion to order up to six feeder container vessels.

According to the announcement, NBOSCO or its subsidiaries plan to invest up to RMB 1.7 billion in the order of 4+2 1,900 TEU container vessels and up to RMB 1 billion in the construction of container vessels with a combined capacity of 64,500 TEU; the actual investment amounts for these projects will be subject to the actual progress of construction.

According to the announcement, the shipbuilders and container manufacturers for the aforementioned projects will be selected through a competitive bidding process.

NBOSCO stated that the decision to invest in and build these vessels and containers was a prudent one made in line with its overall development strategy and business needs. It will optimize the fleet structure, expand the fleet’s scale, continuously strengthen the company’s route service capabilities, and enhance its core competitiveness.

As Zhejiang Province’s largest container liner shipping company, NBOSCO specializes in international liner transport, coastal routes, and Yangtze River services. Its core port, the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan, serves as a major container hub for long-haul ocean routes on the Chinese mainland, as well as a key domestic transshipment hub for iron ore and crude oil. Leveraging the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan as its hub, the company has established a route network that spans near-sea, transoceanic, coastal, and river routes, covering 49 major ports both domestically and internationally, making it a significant player in the global liner shipping market.
