On February 2, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), the intermediate holding company for HD Hyundai Group’s shipbuilding business, announced that it had signed a contract with Angola’s state-owned shipping company, Sonangol Shipping, to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier. The order is worth 357.5 billion won (approximately US$245 million).

The new vessel will be constructed by HD Hyundai Samho and is scheduled for delivery to the shipowner in the first half of 2028.
Including the latest orders, HD KSOE has secured a total of 12 new ship orders worth US$1.93 billion this year, achieving approximately 8.3% of its annual order target of US$23.31 billion.
By vessel type, it includes 5 LNG carriers, 3 LPG/ammonia carriers, 2 crude oil tankers, and 2 product tankers.
Following the completion of the merger between HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and HD Hyundai Mipo, HD KSOE now operates two shipyards: HD Hyundai Samho and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. The company anticipates maintaining an active order acquisition momentum in 2026, with eco-friendly vessels remaining at the core of its strategy.
