1,800-Ton GENMA Gantry Crane Installed at Yangzijiang’s Green Energy Shipbuilding Base

Yangzi Hongyuan Green High-tech Clean Energy Ship Manufacturing Base project, the newly constructed shipbuilding base under China’s largest private shipbuilder Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, has achieved significant construction progress, marking a crucial step toward its completion and commencement of operations in 2026.

Recently, the main girder of a GENMA 1800-ton Shipbuilding Gantry Crane was successfully hoisted and precisely positioned at Jiangsu Yangzi Hongyuan Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. This crane was manufactured by RHM, marking a significant achievement for the GENMA brand in the field of ultra-large lifting equipment.

With a lifting capacity of 1,800 tons, a span of 178 meters, and a hoisting height of 90 meters, this single-girder gantry crane is designed for large-span operations in shipyards. It features multiple independent trolleys, supporting various lifting modes including single lifting, tandem lifting, and mid-air turnover of ship sections. The crane offers a tandem lift capacity of up to 1,800 tons and a section turnover capacity of 1,000 tons, making it well-suited for handling large modules such as those for clean energy vessels.

Jiangsu Yangzi Hongyuan Shipbuilding was established in April 2024 with a registered capital of US$150 million. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Holdings) Ltd.

In July 2024, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding signed an agreement with Jingjiang’s Xinqiao Town (Xinqiao Industrial Park) for the Yangzi Hongyuan Green High-tech Clean Energy Ship Manufacturing Base project, marking the establishment of Yangzijiang’s new shipbuilding base in Jingjiang.

As a major provincial project in Jiangsu Province for 2025, the Yangzhi Hongyuan Shipbuilding Project represents a key strategic initiative for the transformation and upgrading of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding. Construction commenced in February 2025, with completion and commencement of operations scheduled for the end of 2026.

The Yangzi Hongyuan Green High-Tech Clean Energy Ship Manufacturing Base project will utilize a coastline of approximately 1,320 meters and cover an area of about 1,300 mu (around 866,667 square meters). It will include one 300,000-ton shipbuilding dock, one 200,000-ton outfitting wharf, and one 100,000-ton basin, with an annual production capacity of about 800,000 deadweight tons. The project is expected to attract an investment of 3 billion yuan within two years. Upon reaching full production capacity, it is projected to generate an annual output value of no less than 10 billion yuan and an average annual comprehensive tax contribution of no less than 300 million yuan.

At the project signing ceremony, Ren Letian, Chairman of Yanzijiang Shipbuilding, stated that the Yangzhi Hongyuan Shipbuilding Project aims to establish a world-class high-quality development demonstration zone for clean energy gas carriers. Guided by intelligent and digital planning concepts, the project will implement modern shipbuilding models and construct a modern smart factory. Upon completion, it will serve as the primary base for Yanzijiang Shipbuilding to fulfill its existing orders for green clean energy vessels.

According to previous disclosures by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, the Yangzi Hongyuan shipbuilding project is progressing according to plan, with the first new ship expected to be delivered in 2027. Currently, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding is actively planning and securing new ship orders suitable for construction at the Yangzi Hongyuan Shipbuilding, further consolidating and expanding its order-taking competitiveness and order backlog.
