CIMC Raffles Selects TMC Compressors for MK II FLNG Compressed Air System Project

On January 5, Norwegian marine/offshore compressed air system supplier TMC Compressors announced via its official website that it has signed a contract with CIMC Raffles to supply a complete marine compressed air system for the MK II Floating LNG Production, Storage and Offloading (FLNG) unit ordered by Golar LNG. The contract value remains undisclosed.

Under the contract, TMC Compressors’ scope of supply includes a large-capacity marine compressed air system comprising instrument air compressors, utility compressors, nitrogen feed air compressors and air dryers.

“This is a major vessel that requires a large capacity compressed air system. Operating far from shore, operational reliability is obviously key. That is exactly what we are aiming to ensure with our system, which has been designed solely for marine and offshore use,” says Hans-Petter Tanum, TMC’s director of sales and business development.

According to reports, FLNG is a floating offshore platform capable of processing and storing LNG in remote offshore waters before loading it onto LNG carriers for global transportation.

The MK II FLNG is a major conversion project, transforming the 148,500 cubic meter Moss-type LNG carrier “Fuji LNG” into a vessel approximately 390 meters long and 70 meters wide, with a rated annual capacity of 3.5 million tons. The total conversion budget was approximately US$2.2 billion, with all capital expenditures financed through equity financing.

In September 2024, CIMC Raffles and Golar LNG signed a $1.6 billion FLNG EPC conversion contract for the Fuji LNG. The vessel is currently undergoing conversioan nd is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2027, with operations expected to commence in 2028. It will be deployed in San Matías Bay, adjacent to the Hilli FLNG. The combined designed capacity of both FLNG units is 5.95 million tons per year. Both units are leased to Southern Energy for 20 years.
