ONE Takes Delivery of 13,900 TEU Future-Fuel Ready Container Ship from Imabari Shipbuilding

On December 19, Imabari Shipbuilding’s Marugame Headquarters formally delivered the 13,900 TEU ammonia/methanol-ready container vessel ONE SERENITY to its owner, Japan’s Ocean Network Express (ONE).

The “ONE SERENITY” is 335.94 meters long, 51 meters wide, and 30.1 meters deep, with a gross tonnage of 140,233. The vessel is equipped with a 7G95ME-C10.6 main engine and has a speed of approximately 22 knots. Classed by Lloyd’s Register (LR) and flying the Liberian flag, it is designed for future conversion to methanol/ammonia fuel operation and installation of a carbon capture system, having already received Approval in Principle (AiP) from the classification society.

The vessel can carry up to approximately 13,932 TEUs. Its deck is equipped with up to four layers of lashing bridges, enabling the loading of large quantities of refrigerated containers in both the holds and on deck, as well as various dangerous goods as defined by the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code.

The vessel employs cutting-edge analytical technology to develop an optimized hull form that maximizes efficiency during high-frequency voyages by optimizing speed and draft. Through the implementation of energy-saving devices, twisted rudders, and hull coatings that reduce friction with seawater, it achieves exceptional fuel efficiency. It is projected to achieve approximately 60% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, significantly exceeding the latest regulatory requirements. The installation of a bow wind cover further enhances the vessel’s performance during actual navigation.

Additionally, to comply with sulfur oxide (SOx) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission limits, the vessel is equipped with a hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) and an exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR). Other environmental measures include a ballast water treatment system and an inventory list compliant with the International Convention for the Recycling of Ships.

It is understood that ONE’s first 13,000 TEU ammonia/methanol-ready container vessel, the ONE Sparkle, was named in mid-February 2025. The vessel was constructed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.
