DSIC Wins Second 7,100 TEU Boxship Duo from Asiatic Lloyd

Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, has once again won the favor of a German shipowner, successfully securing an additional order for two medium-sized container ships.

Shipbrokers revealed that German private shipping company Asiatic Lloyd has placed an additional order for two 7,100 TEU medium-sized container ships at DSIC. According to Alphaliner, the two newbuilds are scheduled for delivery between late 2027 and early 2028, with each vessel costing approximately $91 million. Upon delivery, they will be chartered on a long-term basis by German liner giant Hapag-Lloyd.

If confirmed, the latest order would mark DSIC’s second medium-sized container vessel project for Asiatic Lloyd this year. In September, the two parties signed a contract for two 7,000 TEU medium-sized container ships, with each vessel estimated to cost $90 million and delivery scheduled for late 2027 to early 2028. The total value of the four newbuildings is approximately $362 million.

According to its official website, Asiatic Lloyd is a privately owned shipowner headquartered in Hamburg and Singapore, operating under the AL Group owned by the K.F. Bunnemann family. The company currently owns six SDARI Sealion 7100-class vessels built between 2023 and 2024, all constructed by DSIC.

It is reported that shipping is the core business of AL Group. Currently, the group operates a diversified fleet of 45 modern merchant vessels, covering container ships, bulk carriers, product tankers, and car carriers, with over 10 new vessels under construction. In addition to owning vessels independently, it also conducts ship investments through bilateral joint ventures, third-party investors, and publicly listed shipping companies.
