Recently, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. has reached two major shipbuilding milestones: the successful completion and return of sea trials for a 174,000m³ large LNG carrier, and the keel laying of a 13,600-TEU container ship.

On November 3, the 174,000 m³ large LNG carrier H1886A, built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding for CNOOC, successfully completed China’s first long-distance, cross-jurisdictional “two-in-one” sea trial for LNG vessels and returned safely. It is the fifth-generation LNG carrier in the “Changheng Series” designed and built independently by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding.
The successful completion of this gas trial operation is a pioneering achievement. It marks the full opening of Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding’s offshore commissioning route for newly-built LNG vessels from Shanghai to Binhai, strongly advancing the implementation of the “domestically-built ships, domestically-tested ships, and domestic cargo transportation by domestic ships” strategy. It provides a replicable and mature plan for subsequent vessels, and further enhances Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding’s comprehensive capabilities in building green and clean energy vessels through a new collaborative and independent industrial paradigm, demonstrating strong influence.
Next, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding will actively engage with high-quality LNG stations to deepen cooperation opportunities and address resource constraints through multiple channels, ensuring smooth sea trials for LNG carriers.
On November 10, the first vessel of COSCO Shipping Lines’ 13,600 TEU container ship project was kicked off construction at the Manufacturing Department II.

The project consists of six vessels, with Renminbi (RMB) as the settlement currency. It integrates four core Chinese elements: “Chinese shipowners, China Classification Society (CCS), Chinese shipyards, and RMB settlement,” demonstrating the joint efforts of the two central enterprises to contribute maritime and shipping strength to China’s pursuit of becoming a maritime power and a strong shipping nation.
The Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding project team, integrating the modern shipbuilding model promoted by the company and drawing on experience from constructing similar vessels, actively advances lean construction management. During the construction process, the team will vigorously pursue technological and process innovations, continuously enhance shipbuilding capabilities and deliver high-quality products to customers.
