Swiss offshore contractor Allseas has secured a contract from TAQA UK to removal the Brae Alpha platform in the UK North Sea.
The project includes engineering, preparation, removal, and waste disposal, to be carried out by Allseas’ heavy-lift vessel “Pioneering Spirit” with support from the construction vessel “Oceanic.” At least 95% of recovered materials will be reused or recycled.
The Brae Alpha platform, located 270 kilometers northeast of Aberdeen, has been a pillar of UK offshore energy since its commissioning in 1983. The decommissioning, which includes the 33,000-ton topside structure, the 13,000-ton jacket, and 34 conductors, is scheduled to take place between 2028 and 2032.
This new contract follows the 2022 Northern North Sea (NNS) decommissioning project, under which Allseas is dismantling TAQA’s Eider Alpha, Tern Alpha, North Cormorant, and Cormorant Alpha platforms.
