Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has recently received Approval in Principle (AIP) from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for its independently developed 26,000 DWT ammonia dual-fuel stainless steel chemical tanker.
In response to the market’s rigid demand for high-efficiency and safe vessels, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group has proactively aligned with international high standards, implemented the national “Dual Carbon Strategy”, fully integrated its internal core technological resources, and assembled a dedicated research team by leveraging the scientific research advantages of CSSC. This has formed an R&D matrix featuring “internal-external collaboration and top-down & bottom-up linkage”.
Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group focused on the adaptation and upgrading of ammonia fuel, strictly followed the specifications for ammonia-fueled ships, and successfully completed the full-chain technical breakthroughs from ship design optimization to system integration, demonstrating strong technical integration and innovation capabilities.
During the R&D process, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group employed CFD technology to conduct multiple rounds of iterative optimization on the hull form, while equipping the vessel with high-efficiency propellers and advanced energy-saving devices.
Model testing has verified that this vessel type achieves approximately 7% lower energy consumption than comparable international products at equivalent speeds, demonstrating significant fuel economy advantages. Its derivative vessel type can increase deadweight capacity to 29,000 tons, substantially boosting cargo capacity while further reducing fuel consumption per ton-mile, securing a leading position in market competitiveness.
Through specialized structural standardization design, the vessel’s components have been streamlined and structural optimization achieved. This approach enhances overall performance while simultaneously optimizing both construction costs and efficiency, fully demonstrating Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group’s technical prowess in integrated design and construction.
