Singapore-based offshore shipbuilder Seatrium has announced that its shipyard has completed a low-carbon upgrade project on the liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier Asia Endeavour, designed to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency. The vessel is the final in a series of LNG carrier upgrades for global energy giant Chevron.
According to Seatrium’s social media announcement, the project is a key component of Chevron’s low-carbon upgrade program for its LNG carrier fleet. Through the provision of comprehensive engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning (EPIC) services, the Asia Endeavour has been equipped with a new reliquefaction system, a hull air lubrication system and an upgraded four-stage fuel gas compressor.
Over the past eight months, Seatrium’s shipyards have completed upgrades for four Chevron LNG carriers, including the Asia Vision, the first Chevron vessel to receive a low-carbon upgrade using the EPIC turnkey solution.
Chevron initially signed the agreement with Sembcorp Marine, Seatrium’s predecessor, and announced it in late February 2023. Seatrium is on track to complete the upgrade by mid-2025. Both parties stated that the project aims to reduce the carbon intensity of Chevron’s owned LNG carrier fleet to meet the decarbonization targets set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Recently, Seatrium’s parent company, Sembcorp Industries, announced that another of its subsidiaries had signed a long-term liquefied natural gas purchase and sales agreement with Chevron’s Singapore business unit.
