On August 15, Wuhu Shipyard held a steel cutting ceremony for the 800-passenger new-type ro-ro passenger ship built for Qinhuangdao Hechuang Shipping. Leaders from Hebei Port Group, Qinhuangdao Hechuang Shipping, China Classification Society, Wuhu Shipyard, Tri Water New Energy Technology and other units gathered at the scene.
As a state-of-the-art vessel specifically designed for the short-haul international route between Qinhuangdao and Incheon, South Korea, this new 800-passenger roll-on/roll-off passenger (RoPax) ship achieves multiple breakthroughs in design.
The vessel is scientifically divided into three horizontal main vertical zones and three vertical main vertical zones, strictly adhering to the latest international standards for safe return to port, damage stability, securing regulations, vibration and noise control, and cybersecurity, thereby establishing a robust safety barrier from the ground up.
As a benchmark for energy-efficient and environmentally friendly modern RoPax ship, it integrates multiple transportation functions, efficiently transporting passengers while also carrying a variety of freight units, including passenger cars, heavy-duty trucks, container trailers, ro-ro cargo, standard containers, and refrigerated containers, thereby achieving the operational advantage of “passenger and cargo transport combined, direct to destination.” Its core parameters demonstrate its formidable capabilities.
The ship will be built in strict accordance with the highest international standards and is expected to officially enter service in 2027. At that time, its ultra-large passenger capacity of 748 people will significantly enhance the passenger carrying capacity of the Qinren route, while its efficient freight system will optimize cross-border logistics turnover efficiency, providing passengers with a safer and more comfortable travel experience and creating a more efficient and economical transportation channel for cargo owners.
This RoPax ship, which integrates cutting-edge technology and green concepts, will not only inject strong momentum into Qinhuangdao’s construction of an international tourist city, but will also accelerate its integration into the strategic layout of the Hebei Port Group’s international tourism port, becoming an important maritime hub connecting northern China and Northeast Asia, and providing solid support for promoting the international development of the regional economy.
