Guohang Ocean Shipping Invests $12.46M to Retrofit Bulk Carriers with Methanol Dual-Fuel Systems

On July 7th, Fujian Guohang Ocean Shipping (Group) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Guohang Ocean Shipping”) released a progress announcement regarding the signing of a supplementary agreement to the construction contract for 89,000 DWT bulk carriers.

The announcement disclosed that Guoyuan Elegance Co., Ltd. and Guoyuan Wisdom Co., Ltd. signed supplementary agreements with Wuhu Shipyard and the company on July 4, 2025, with a total additional charge of US$6.23 million. The two companies will pay a total of US$12.46 million.

According to the announcement, Guohang Ocean Shipping held a board meeting on May 29, 2025 and passed a resolution to sign an important contract to adapt to the relevant environmental protection requirements of ships. The company decided to change the methanol dual-fuel power system of two ships (hull numbers W23143 and W23144) to “methanol dual-fuel system”. The additional account fee for each ship shall not exceed US$6.3 million.

It is reported that on December 28, 2023, Guohang Ocean Shipping signed a contract with Wuhu Shipyard for the construction of 4+6 methanol dual-fuel bulk carriers with a deadweight tonnage of 89,000 tons. Subsequently, its subsidiary Guodian Ocean Shipping (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. (Guodian Hong Kong) issued two notices of option exercise to Wuhu Shipyard on May 27, 2024, and August 28, 2024, respectively, for four additional ships, bringing the total number of new ships in this batch to eight.

On November 28, 2024, Guodian Hong Kong again issued a notice to Wuhu Shipyard for the effective construction of two option ships with hull numbers W23149 and W231410. So far, all six option ships have come into effect, and the total number of 89,000 DWT methanol dual-fuel bulk carriers signed by Guohang Ocean Shipping at Wuhu Shipyard has reached 10.
