Wuhu Shipyard Achieves Dual Milestones: 7,000 CEU LNG Dual-Fuel Ro-Ro Vessel Launched & Sister Vessel Begins Sea Trials

Wuhu Shipyard realized two important production milestones in two consecutive days: a 7,000 CEU LNG dual-fuel ro-ro vessel launching and a vessel undergoing sea trials.

On May 25th, Wuhu Shipyard successfully launched the 7,000 CEU LNG dual-fuel ro-ro vessel “AICC Fenghuang”, marking the completion of the main construction of the vessel. Next, the vessel will officially enter into the dock outfitting and equipment commissioning stage.

On May 26, AICC Fenghuang’s sister vessel “AICC Kunpeng” left the dock and started sea trials. This sea trial adopted an innovative “oil and gas integration” sea trial mode – the fuel system and power system were simultaneously subjected to rigorous sea inspections. It is a bold breakthrough that significantly compresses the testing cycle that traditionally needs to be completed in stages.

It is worth mentioning that both car carriers were built at the Wuhu Shipyard Zhoushan Base (Zhoushan East Coast Shipyard). The project manager of the base said: “We are currently in the critical period of sprinting for the second quarter production target. The double breakthrough of the 7000 CEU LNG dual-fuel car carriers has greatly boosted our confidence and fully proved that we have the ability and strength to build high-end vessels. We will ensure the high-quality completion of subsequent construction and commissioning tasks to lay a solid foundation for achieving the annual target.”

It is understood that the 7,000 CEU LNG dual-fuel ro-ro vessel project is ordered by Anhui Hangrui International RoRo Transportation, a subsidiary of Anhui Port and Shipping Group, with a total of three vessels in the project, the first vessel named “AICC HUANGHU”. Wuhu Shipyard won the order through competitive bidding, and the contract price of a single vessel is US$88.95 million.

This series of vessels is designed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI). The vessel has an overall length of 199.9 meters, a beam of 38 meters, a depth of 15.5 meters, a maximum draught of 10 meters, a gross tonnage of 71,000 tons, and a cargo hold with 12 vehicle decks (of which 4 are movable decks), which can carry all kinds of vehicles, including passenger cars, commercial vehicles, buses, trucks, new energy vehicles, and construction machinery.

The vessel’s propulsion system adopts the latest generation WinGD dual-fuel main engine, MacGregor electronically controlled RORO system with iCER technology, permanent magnet shaft with generator, and BOG energy-saving design, which meets the strict Tier III emission standard requirements of the International Maritime Organization.

Public information shows that Anhui Hangrui International RoRo Transportation was registered and established in December 2022. It is a joint venture between Anhui Port and Shipping Group, Chery international, and Jianghuai Automobile Group, with shareholding ratios of 44.44444%, 44.44444%, and 11.11111%, respectively.
