On May 29, Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co Ltd.(DACKS) appeared on China’s official media CCTV-2. The media reported on DACKS’s shipbuilding completion volume, new orders, and order backlog, demonstrating the strong market resilience and competitiveness of Chinese shipbuilders in the current complex global trade environment.
At the same time, the program also conducted in-depth interviews and reports on DACKS, focusing on trends such as the accelerated advancement of high-end intelligent green shipbuilding and the continuous growth in the share of new green power ship orders. The company’s general manager and party secretary Luo Wenqing and assistant general manager He Jinwei accepted interviews with CCTV.
DACKS has delivered 130 high-quality ships of more than 10 types, including 24,000 TEU container ships and 308,000 DWT oil tankers. Its shipbuilding capacity and profitability have been improving year by year. It has successfully established a national-level enterprise technology center and become the first company in the industry to be designated as a smart manufacturing demonstration factory. It maintains a leading position in the industry in multiple fields such as green, digital, and intelligent technologies.
From January to April 2025, DACKS has completed and delivered three ships, with the total deadweight tonnage of delivered ships increasing by 58% year-on-year. The company plans to complete and deliver 12 ships for the entire year, maintaining an annual growth rate of 10%-15% in operational volume. In terms of new orders, since the start of 2025, DACKS has secured nine new orders, representing a year-on-year increase of 195%. The company’s order backlog extends through 2029, demonstrating strong growth momentum.
In the field of high-tech and green shipbuilding, the company’s first LNG (liquefied natural gas) dual-fuel tanker is expected to be completed and delivered in September; a methanol dual-fuel container ship is about to start construction; and zero-carbon fuel ship types such as ammonia fuel and hydrogen fuel are also under development and in reserve.
In terms of digital intelligence, DACKS has built 25 intelligent production lines and 2 intelligent workshops. The smart ships it builds are equipped with digital “smart” systems such as ship-shore data communication and intelligent ship management, empowering smart shipping and smart navigation services, and contributing to the creation of a “full life cycle digital intelligent ship operation platform” for COSCO SHIPPING Group and COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry.
