ZPMC’s Homegrown DP2 System Breaks Foreign Monopoly: World’s Largest Wind Platform to Adopt China-Certified Tech

Recently, the Z-DP series DP2 dynamic positioning control system independently developed by Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery (ZPMC) successfully passed the inspection and obtained type approval certificate from the China Classification Society (CCS).

The Z-DP series DP2 dynamic positioning control system allows ships to maintain their designated position and heading without relying on anchoring systems or other devices, regardless of the depth of the water, making ship positioning operations safer and more reliable.

The DP2 dynamic positioning control system is equipped with two independent dynamic positioning control systems and a joint joystick control system with automatic bow steering control, featuring online positioning analysis capabilities and other functions. All technical specifications fully meet the redundant design principles of the DP-2 additional notation in the CCS specifications.

The DP2 dynamic positioning control system is one of the main research directions of the National Engineering Technology Research Center for Offshore Crane and Pipe Laying Equipment, which is constructed by ZPMC. The special R&D team is formed by ZPMC Design and Research Institute, which is fully responsible for algorithms, software, hardware, human-machine interface, project management, and other work.

As a Class III computer system, the system completed 24 tests including environmental tests and electromagnetic compatibility tests in accordance with the type test outline approved by the surveyor, and mastered a number of key technologies. Following the commercial application of the DP1 dynamic positioning control system, the R&D team has continued to promote scientific and technological research and development and the transformation of research results based on strategic needs.

At present, the Z-DP series DP2 dynamic positioning control system has been shipped and will soon be used in the world’s largest wind power installation platform. This achievement breaks the monopoly of similar foreign technologies, effectively promotes the process of independent control of core key systems of offshore engineering equipment, and contributes to the development of China’s offshore engineering industry.
