On May 20, Celsius Tech announced on social media the naming and delivery of the 180,000 m³ liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier “Celsius Galapagos” built by Samsung Heavy Industries, the 12th LNG carrier owned by the shipowner.
“Celsius Galapagos” is the eighth of 11 180,000 m³ LNG carriers ordered by Celsius from Samsung Heavy Industries, with the remaining three under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries’ Geoje Shipyard. The vessel is the latest LNG carrier based on an environmentally friendly and efficient design, with significantly improved fuel efficiency compared to existing vessels.
Celsius fleet data shows that the remaining three vessels are expected to be delivered between 2025 and 2027. The first seven vessels are named Celsius Geneva, Celsius Giza, Celsius Glarus, Celsius Gandhinagar, Celsius Greenwich, Celsius Granada and Celsius Galway. All vessels in this series are managed by Celsius Tech.
In addition to Samsung Heavy Industries, Celsius has ordered several 180,000 m³ LNG carriers from China Merchants Heavy Industries Haimen shipyard (CMHI Haimen shipyard). On December 30, 2022, CMHI Haimen shipyard and Celsius signed a contract for the construction of 4+2+2 180,000 m³ LNG carriers. The first vessel was kicked off on October 23, 2023 and is expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2025. On the day the first vessel was kicked off, Celsius announced that two vessels were in force and 4 optional vessels were signed, bringing the number of LNG carriers undertaken by CMHI Haimen shipyard to 12 (6+2+4). The delivery date of the effective orders of CMHI Haimen shipyard is scheduled for 2026-2027.
According to the official website, Celsius Tech, the in-house technical management company for Danish shipping company Celsius Shipping’s fleet of LNG carriers, was established in 2019 through a joint venture with Hong Kong-based Fleet Management Limited (Fleet Management), and currently manages 12 in-operation 180,000 cubic meter LNG carriers.
