On May 13, a methanol dual-fuel bulk carrier chartered by NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd., an NYK Group company, from KAMBARA KISEN Co., Ltd. was delivered at the TSUNEISHI Factory of TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd., and a naming and delivery ceremony was held. At the ceremony, Yuko Tsutsui, Managing Executive Officer and Chief Executive of Sustainability & Transformation Headquarters of NYK, named the vessel “Green Future”.
On August 1 last year, NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd., an NYK Group company, concluded a basic agreement with Kambara Kisen Co., Ltd. for the time charter of this methanol dual-fuel bulk carrier.
“Green Future” overall length is 199.99 meters, breadth is 32.25 meters, depth is 19.15 meters, deadweight is approximately 65,700 metric tons, capacity is approximately 81,500 cubic meters, and draft is 13.8 meters.
This vessel is the first bulk carrier in the NYK Group to be equipped with a dual-fuel engine that uses methanol and fuel oil. Methanol has a lower environmental impact than fuel oil, and by using bio-methanol and e-methanol produced using hydrogen derived from renewable energy sources and recovered carbon dioxide, the vessel achieves significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Boasting the largest loading capacity of an Ultramax bulker, the vessel will have a general-purpose hull that can transport various cargoes, including grain and ore.
The NYK Group aims to promote the decarbonization of its fleet and realize clean transportation by using a wide range of low-carbon and decarbonized fuels, including low-carbon methanol.
