Danish shipping company Celsius Shipping has once again demonstrated its acumen in asset management.
Celsius Shipping has sold two MR2 tankers built in 2021 for approximately $35.5 million each, according to shipbroker sources.The two vessels were purchased by Celsius in 2021 for $31.5 million each. hrough this sale, the value of each vessel increased by approximately US$4 million, totaling approximately US$8 million, realizing a substantial profit.
The two vessels, named “Celsius Philadelphia” and “Celsius Portsmouth”, both with a deadweight of 50,000 tons, were constructed by Xin Yangzi Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, and were completed and delivered on June 16 and July 15, 2021, respectively. The vessels have an overall length of 182.55 meters, a beam of 32.20 meters, a depth of 19.10 meters, a design draft of 11.00 meters and a structural draft of 13.30 meters.
According to the official website, Celsius currently owns a fleet of 36 vessels (including the above two vessels), with the remaining 34 being 21 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, 12 container ships, and one chemical tanker.
In 2023, Celsius completely withdrew from the chemical tanker field by selling three chemical tankers and one MR product tanker; in 2024, the company purchased an eight-year-old, 20,000 DWT clean oil tanker for US$31.5 million and returned to the chemical tanker market.
Recently, Celsius has invested most of its capital in the LNG carrier sector, while withdrawing most of its capital from the tanker sector, and now has 10 vessels under construction and 11 vessels on order. Earlier this year, Celsius awarded Samsung Heavy Industries one 180,000 cubic meter LNG carrier.
