On October 16, CIMC Raffles successfully delivered the 3,300-meter-lane Ro-Ro vessel “AKRANES,” built for the Faroe Islands shipping company SMYRIL LINE.

The “AKRANES” is the second 3,300-meter-lane RO-RO vessel that CIMC Raffles has delivered to SMYRIL LINE, following the “SKIPANES.” The project was based on a basic design by the Danish firm KUND E HANSEN, with CIMC Raffles responsible for the detailed and construction designs. The vessel is 189.5 meters long, 27.2 meters wide, and has a design speed of 18 knots. It is equipped with a CPP propeller and shaft system, as well as two bow thrusters and one stern thruster, and has a crew of 26.
This vessel was specifically designed for year-round operations on the Europe–Faroe Islands–Iceland route. With a capacity of 3,300 meters of vehicle lanes per vessel, it meets higher standards in terms of construction, integration of low-carbon technologies, and adaptability to sea conditions, which will directly enhance its freight service capabilities in the North Atlantic.
Compared to SMYRILLINE’s existing fleet, the new vessels represent a significant improvement in cargo transport efficiency per unit, with carbon emissions per metric ton of cargo expected to be reduced by more than 60 percent, helping the shipowner achieve its emissions reduction targets and control long-term operating costs.
