Following the contract signed on September 24 with Thailand’s Regional Container Lines (RCL) for the construction of four “Honghu”-series 3,100 TEU container ships, Huangpu Wenchong has secured another order for this series vessels.
On September 29, CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd (CSTC), signed a contract with Greece’s Erasmus Shipinvest Group for the construction of two additional 1,900 TEU container ships. This marks a follow-up order for the same vessel type from Erasmus Shipinvest, building upon the contract for two 1,900 TEU container ships that became effective between the parties this past July.
This 1,900-TEU container ship is a flagship of the “Honghu” series, independently developed by Huangpu Wenchong. With a total length of 172 meters, a beam of 27.5 meters, and a deadweight of approximately 24,000 tons, the vessel offers advantages such as high loading efficiency, low energy consumption, strong adaptability, and flexible routing. The ship design meets the Phase 3 energy efficiency requirements of the International Maritime Organization’s EEDI and is equipped with environmental protection systems such as shore power and desulfurization systems. It is a low-carbon, energy-efficient vessel that complies with global emissions regulations, making it a high-quality, workhorse feeder vessel that combines economic efficiency with green performance.
Previously, Huangpu Wenchong signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement with Erasmus Shipinvest. The two parties have continuously deepened their collaboration in areas such as new shipbuilding and ship repair, effectively implementing an integrated shipbuilding and repair partnership. Moving forward, both sides will leverage their respective strengths to further expand the scope and depth of their cooperation, jointly ushering in a new era of mutually beneficial, collaborative development.
Reportedly, the partnership between Huangpu Wenchong and Erasmus Shipinvest began on April 2, 2026, with the signing of a contract for an initial batch of 2+2 1,800 TEU container ships. On June 3, Erasmus Shipinvest, in collaboration with BAL Container Line, placed another order with Huangpu Wenchong for 2+2 1,900 TEU container ships. On July 16, Huangpu Wenchong signed a contract with Erasmus Shipinvest for 2+2 1,900 TEU container ships. With this latest order, the total number of new vessels covered by their partnership has risen to 8+6.
