Changhang Freight Partners with JSHT to Sign Newbuilding Contract for Two 82,000 DWT Bulk Carriers

On June 17, Changhang Freight and Jiangsu Haitong Offshore Engineering Equipment Co., Ltd. (JSHT) signed a contract in Nantong for the construction of two 82,000 DWT bulk carriers designed for both domestic and international trade.

The 82,000 DWT bulk carrier construction project signed on this occasion is a key initiative for Changhang Freight to build a green fleet and expand its domestic and international dry bulk cargo operations during the “15th Five-Year Plan” period. It also marks the second collaboration between Changhang Freight and JSHT following the “Changhang Jiahai” project.

This bulk carrier is a fourth-generation green and smart Karsam-class vessel, capable of calling at major bulk cargo hub ports worldwide and serving both deep-sea trunk routes and regional short-haul routes. The vessel features outstanding green and low-carbon characteristics, with a high-power marine shore power system as standard equipment that meets the shore power policy requirements of both domestic and international ports. Its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) complies with the IMO’s stringent requirements. It is also equipped with an intelligent energy management system that monitors fuel consumption, speed, weather conditions, and cargo load data in real time, automatically optimizing the voyage plan.

Statistics show that at the beginning of the year, JSHT secured orders for 4+2+2 17,400 DWT multi-purpose vessels from Singapore-based Wealth Holdings; this marks the shipowner’s first order as it enters the multi-purpose vessel sector.

According to official information, JSHT is located at Rugao Port – a Class I national open port and a key shipbuilding park of Jiangsu Province – covering a total area of over 500,000 square meters, with a 660-meter outfitting wharf. It is equipped with one dry dock measuring 400m×50m, one 300-ton gantry crane and one 1,100-ton gantry crane, as well as two 3272 kVA shore power units; a 100,000 DWT outfitting wharf with two 4075 kVA shore power units. The company has major production workshops including a steel plate pretreatment workshop, a cutting workshop, a block fabrication workshop, a pipe workshop and a painting workshop, totaling 100,000 square meters in area and featuring over 1,000 sets of modern production equipment.
