Zhenjiang Shipyard Begins Construction of the World’s Largest 11,000 DWT Sulfur Transport Vessel

On March 30, Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard (Group) successfully commenced construction of the world’s largest 11,000 DWT sulfur carrier. The vessel is being built for UAE shipowner ADNOC, with the shipyard also contributing to the detailed design. The shipbuilding contract was originally signed on May 27, 2025.

According to its official website, Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard (Group), formerly known as Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard. was established on May 25, 1951. It was the first shipbuilding enterprise in Jiangsu Province and the first shipbuilding-related high-tech enterprise to be re-certified.

Zhenjiang Shipyard covers an area of nearly 500,000 ㎡.Its facilities include one 80,000-ton, one 20,000-ton, and one 5,000-ton slipway, along with an 80,000-ton dry dock. The slipways have a maximum lifting capacity of 700 tons. It features 1,800 meters of Yangtze River waterfront, along with 1,200 meters of fixed and quay-side outfitting docks, with a maximum lifting capacity of 30 tons. The facility includes 100,000 ㎡ of indoor workshops and over 1,300 sets of advanced production and processing equipment. It is a ship assembly plant designed according to modern shipbuilding standards, operating under an integrated model that combines hull, outfitting, and painting with production, design, and management.
