Thun Tankers Places Order for Two Ice-Class AccessMAX Product Tankers with Ferus Smit

Erik Thun Group’s Swedish shipowner Thun Tankers announced that it has placed an order with Dutch shipyard Ferus Smit for two 4,500 DWT ice-class product tankers, expected to be delivered in 2028 and 2029. The cost has not yet been disclosed.

The new buildings will be of the “AccessMAX” type, which is specially adapted to narrow and restricted waters. It can not only navigate narrow waters such as Lake Vänern in Sweden, but also flexibly cope with the wider trade routes in the North Sea and Northwest Europe.

The new vessel is 89 meters long and 13.35 meters wide, meets ice class standards, has a cargo hold volume of approximately 5,000 cubic meters, representing a roughly 10% increase in loading capacity compared to the previous generation of the same vessel type.

This new order is a continuation of the long-standing partnership between the Erik Thun Group and Ferus Smit, who have collaborated on the delivery of over 50 vessels over the years.
