On January 28, Mawei Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group (Fujian Shipbuilding), held a delivery and naming ceremony for the 9000 DWT specialized liquid cargo vessel, named “Qinzhou Wan”, built for COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers. This is the 11th new vessel named/delivered by Fujian Shipbuilding since the beginning of 2026.

The Qinzhou Wan has an overall length of 119.8 meters, a design speed of 13 knots and a range of 12,000 nautical miles. It is classed by the China Classification Society.
The vessel features a brand-new low-resistance hull design and multiple energy-saving devices, achieving industry-leading levels of energy efficiency and emissions reduction, and meeting IMO Tier III nitrogen oxide emission standards.
The cargo tanks are specially designed to safely transport various liquid cargoes, including asphalt, refined oil with a flash point above 60°C, and Class II chemicals, meeting diverse customer needs. The vessel is also equipped with advanced navigation and digital monitoring systems, significantly enhancing its safety management capabilities and operational efficiency. It represents a modern specialized vessel with high technological sophistication and stringent environmental standards.

The vessel carries three significant additional notations: the “Digital Delivery (HD, ED)” notation, the “Biodiesel Fuel” notation and the “i-ship(E)” notation.
It is understood that the delivery of this specialized liquid carrier will further solidify Mawei Shipbuilding’s market position in the construction of specialized and high-tech vessels. As a critical segment within liquid chemical tankers, specialized liquid carriers impose unique requirements on cargo hold insulation systems, loading/unloading systems, and safety/environmental designs, featuring complex construction processes and demanding technical specifications. This naming/delivery ceremony demonstrates the maturity and reliability of Mawei Shipbuilding’s design capabilities, manufacturing processes, and quality management systems within this specialized market segment.
COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers currently owns and controls over ten specialized liquid cargo vessels, with ship types spanning various tonnage classes including 6,000 DWT, 7,500 DWT, and 13,000 DWT. The addition of the Qinzhou Wan and subsequent 9,000 DWT class vessels will further strengthen COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers’ tiered fleet capacity in this specialized sector.
