On January 13, China State Shipbuilding Corporation Beihai Shipbuilding, China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), Zheyin Financial Leasing and COSCO Shipping Bulk held a signing ceremony for the project of three new 210,000 DWT dry bulk carriers.

Beihai Shipbuilding announced that the newly contracted 210,000 DWT dry cargo vessels are developed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute (SDARI) and will be classed by China Classification Society (CCS). The vessel has an overall length of 299.90 meters, a beam of 50.00 meters, a depth of 26.30 meters, and a structural draft of 18.50 meters. It features a dual-fuel design with provisions for methanol and ammonia fuel. Capable of handling bulk cargo, general cargo, and containers, it represents an innovative upgrade to the traditional 210,000 DWT vessel design.
This agreement represents a concrete step by all parties toward achieving high-quality development goals, advancing new productive forces, and building a new development paradigm. The parties will continue to deepen synergistic development in shipbuilding, financial leasing, and shipping logistics, jointly establishing a sustainable cooperative relationship.
Within just nine days of the start of 2026, Beihai Shipbuilding has secured four orders.
On January 5, Beihai Shipbuilding signed a contract with Greek shipowner Cape Shipping for the construction of 1+1 very large crude carriers (VLCCs).
This VLCC belongs to the “Morning Star” series of liquid cargo vessels independently developed and designed by Beihai Shipbuilding. With an overall length of 339.5 meters, a beam of 60 meters, and a deadweight tonnage of 319,000 tons, it features energy-saving equipment to enhance operational efficiency. The vessel incorporates pre-installation provisions for ammonia fuel, enabling future configuration of two 6,000-cubic-meter ammonia fuel tanks to achieve zero-carbon green operations throughout its entire voyage. It complies with the latest CSR, OCIMF, and oil company standards, offering outstanding versatility. The vessel meets the International Maritime Organization’s Tier III emission standards and the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase III requirements.
On January 7, Beihai Shipbuilding signed a contract with a Greek shipowner for the construction of one Suezmax oil tanker. This brings the total number of such vessels contracted by Beihai Shipbuilding to three, marking the company’s full-scale entry into the Suezmax oil tanker construction sector.
This Suezmax-class oil tanker is part of the “Morning Star” series of liquid cargo vessels independently developed and designed by Beihai Shipbuilding. With an overall length of 274.3 meters, a beam of 50 meters, and a deadweight tonnage of 161,800 tons, the vessel features a conventional fuel design. It complies with the International Maritime Organization’s Tier III emission standards and meets the requirements of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase III.
On January 9, Beihai Shipbuilding and Seacon Shipping Group successfully signed a contract for the construction of two 210,000 DWT bulk carriers.
This 210,000 DWT bulk carrier is the fifth generation of the “Polaris” series of 210,000 DWT bulk carriers independently designed by Beihai Shipbuilding. The vessel has an overall length of 300.00 meters and a beam of 50.00 meters. This series of vessels features comprehensive optimization in its hull form, taking into account the operational characteristics of both full-load and ballast-load navigation, resulting in an overall propulsion efficiency improvement of over 6% compared to the previous generation. In terms of environmental design, this vessel meets EEDI III standards, NOx Tier III emission standards, and is equipped with an EGCS system, achieving a breakthrough in both high efficiency and environmental protection.
The 210,000 DWT bulk carrier, as Beihai Shipbuilding’s flagship vessel type, has long secured its position in the global market through its formidable capabilities. Beihai Shipbuilding consistently leads the world in orders for this vessel type, maintaining a commanding market share.
The continuous securing of this series of orders demonstrates the market’s high recognition of Beihai Shipbuilding’s brand and technology, and further highlights the company’s competitive edge in the market. This achievement lays a solid foundation for steady growth in production and operations throughout the year.
