COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry, a leading enterprise in China’s ship repair industry, closed out 2025 with a record-breaking performance exceeding RMB 10 billion. COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry has five main ship repair companies, and its total number of ships repaired in 2025 will exceed 1,300, far surpassing its followers.

On January 9, 2026, the 95th meeting of the Ship Repair China Consortium (SPCC) was successfully convened in Jiangyin. Through exchanges and analysis among member units, this conference highlighted several key industry achievements, including: the total ship repair volume exceeded RMB 45 billion (approximately US$164.48 billion), representing a year-on-year increase of approximately 13.5%, significantly outpacing China’s GDP growth rate and demonstrating the industry’s vitality; and China continues to maintain its leading position in global ship repair, with a projected share of over 64% by the number of completed vessels by 2025.
According to the conference announcement, China accounted for over 64% of the global completed ship repair volume in 2025, with the following breakdown:
- 64.18% for ships over 10,000 deadweight tons;
- 68.10% for ships over 20,000 deadweight tons;
- 69.94% for ships over 30,000 deadweight tons.
Notably, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industries, a member of the SPCC, has become the first single group in China’s ship repair industry to break the RMB 10 billion output value mark. This achievement represents a “double breakthrough” in both output value and vessel repair volume, marking a milestone development for China’s ship repair sector. The median output value per vessel reached RMB 6 million, maintaining a stable level across the industry. Water-based operations accounted for 62.04% of green ship repair activities, representing a year-on-year increase of approximately 20%, highlighting the remarkable achievements in the transition toward green ship repair.

The meeting briefed participants on the summary of the Ship Repair Technical Committee regarding green ship repair equipment. Notably, statistics based on a sample of 19 major shipyards show that as of December 30, 2025, the ownership volume of various types of green equipment maintained a month-on-month growth: 1,704 water jetting machines (up 2.3%); 474 wall-climbing robots (up 2.1%); 112 boom trucks (up 8.9%); and 241 dock bottom vehicles (up 7.1%). The relevant data visually demonstrates the solid progress made by the industry in its green and intelligent transformation.
At this meeting, the application of Weihai Maple Leaf Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. for joining the SPCC was voted and approved, marking the further expansion of the SPCC membership. An in-depth discussion was also organized on the proposal to establish the position of EO (Executive Chairman) Assistant. In addition, Huarun Dadong Dockyard Co., Ltd. (HRDD), the rotating chair of the 94th SPCC session, delivered a detailed briefing on the Survey Report on the Application of Silicone Paint and Conventional Antifouling Paint.
