CMJL (Nanjing) Wins Repeat Order from TT-Line for Next-Generation Eco-Friendly Ro-Pax Vessels

China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing) Co. Ltd.(CMJL (Nanjing)) secures a letter of intent for a new Ro-Pax vessel.

Foreign media reports indicate that German ferry operator TT-Line has signed a contract with CMJL (Nanjing) for the construction of 1+1 new Ro-Pax vessels.

On October 7, 2025, CMJL (Nanjing) secured an option order for 1+1 new Ro-Pax vessels from TT-Line, which was finalized as a formal order two months later.

TT-Line stated that the two new Ro-Pax vessels will continue the design concept of the company’s previously built liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered Ro-Pax vessels “Nils Holgersson” and “Peter Pan”. These two vessels were also built by CMJL (Nanjing) and were delivered in 2022 and 2023 respectively. They are the company’s first generation of Ro-Pax vessels.

Compared to the first generation of Ro-Pax vessels, the two new Ro-Pax vessels to be built by TT-Line will feature comprehensive upgrades in core performance and specifications. With a length of approximately 240 meters and a capacity for 1,000 passengers, these vessels will incorporate environmentally friendly technologies such as liquefied natural gas hybrid propulsion systems and shore-to-ship battery charging solutions. This will enable the new vessels to align with TT-Line’s goal of reducing local emissions during Ro-Pax vessel operations.

TT-Line stated that the new design improves operational efficiency by upgrading the hull and onboard systems, while also optimizing the layout of the cabins and outdoor areas, building upon the performance of the previous generation.

CMJL (Nanjing)’s collaboration with TT-Line began in 2018, when TT-Line first expanded its shipbuilding plans beyond Europe, marking a new chapter in global cooperation.
