On November 4, China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Beihai Shipbuilding held a naming ceremony for two 319,000 DWT ammonia-ready very large crude carriers (VLCCs) built for EURONAV, a subsidiary of Belgium’s CMB.TECH Group. The completion of the “ATREBATES” and “EBURONES” marks Beihai Shipbuilding’s successful entry into the VLCC market.

The vessel named “ATREBATES” was delivered 7 months ahead of schedule, and the second vessel “EBURONES” will also be delivered 8 months ahead of schedule as planned. The high-quality early delivery of these vessels demonstrates the leapfrog improvement of Beihai Shipbuilding in production efficiency and management effectiveness.
The first vessel “ATREBATES”, is 339.5 meters long, 60 meters wide, and 30.3 meters deep with a design speed of 14.5 knots, and is classed by the ABS classification society.

This VLCC is independently developed by China Ship Design & Research Center Co., Ltd, (CSDC) and serves as a key project for Beihai Shipbuilding in 2025. Since its inception, the design, procurement, and construction have been advanced with higher standards and stricter requirements.
To ensure efficient project implementation, Beihai Shipbuilding has precisely compressed the dock cycle to guarantee the completion of all critical processes on schedule. Simultaneously, adhering to the principle of “optimizing overall assembly efficiency”, the living quarters assembly team has achieved breakthroughs by completing power-up and debugging for 17 systems, thereby enhancing both construction quality and production efficiency.
Beihai Shipbuilding stated that CMB.TECH’s trust and strong support have injected powerful momentum into the company’s pursuit of serialized and scaled development in large oil tanker construction. This further solidifies Beihai Shipbuilding’s leading position in the global shipbuilding market and lays a solid foundation for future growth.
Beihai Shipbuilding will focus on technological innovation and quality improvement, work with partners to address market challenges, jointly explore new areas of green shipping, and repay every trust and expectation with its core strength.
